… well, not really.
Our community has decided that every last Wednesday of the month we would have our community outing. We had our first community outing yesterday, and we did go around Laguna a bit. The itinerary we followed brought us to Cavinti, around Caliraya Lake, Kalayaan to Pakil and back. The destruction that typhoon Frank was still visible in some of the places we saw.
The trip was educational. It brought us into contact with the early Church history of Laguna through the old churches we saw at Kalayaan, Pakil and Paete. The man-made lake in Caliraya, a product of American engineers, was beautiful seen from some parts of Cavinti. There are lodges near the lake that are used by businessmen for their meetings. Who knows, perhaps one day, we can also use one of these lake-side resorts as a venue for a retreat or recollection.
The Japanese Garden was a nice peaceful place. We were there during the lunch hours so very people were around. But I doubt whether it has a lot visiitors: the place is remote and we didn’t see public rides passing through the area.
We had our afternoon coffee at the Exotik. It is a restaurant in Kalayaan quite near the ancient and dilapidated St. John the Baptist Church. Exotik is known for the pythons and other exotic animals it has on display. There, one eats at tables situated near the cages of such animals. We just looked at the pythons they had on display. They were all asleep though, perhaps because of the large chicken they had for dinner. The cups of brewed coffee we took were satisfactory both to the taste and to the pocket. We drank two pitchers, all for 132 PHP.
